Heating Insulation and the Role it Plays in Your Home
Heating insulation in the UK is often in the form of underfloor heating, which is usually comprised of tiles that have been placed underneath your floor boards to reflect heat back and prevent it from being absorbed by the walls and floors. These are generally made out of rubber or resin and as a result can be very effective at reducing heat loss, but the downside is that due to the material they can be rather costly, which makes replacing underfloor heating more expensive than many of the other options available. Another option for getting heat in your home is to use a combination of underfloor heating and radiators. These can come in the form of oil filled or water filled units and although they may take some getting used to, they do actually perform quite well when it comes to keeping the warmth in the home where it is wanted. The water-filled ones are more effective in the winter months and the oil-filled versions in the summer months, but in both instances you should be aware that if the pipes underneath the floor boards are clogged then you are not going to get the results you are looking for, so be sure to call in an expert if you are having any problems with your underfloor heating.
Another option is to go with radiant floor heating. This works by using reflective foil material that is installed directly under your floorboards. The heat that is generated in this way is able to escape through the foil, which absorbs most of the heat that is generated within the room. This in turn helps to keep the heat where it is wanted, meaning that you will be able to keep the rooms in your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter, which is very important.
Radiant floor insulation boards are available in a wide range of colours, styles and thicknesses to suit your requirements, but generally the more expensive ones are made out of a specialised material called ‘thermoplastic’. This is because the material is flame retardant and because it is also rigid, it is much more durable than other types of underfloor heating systems. You can find radiators in almost every colour you can imagine, so you are guaranteed to be able to find something to meet your needs.
